How it is scored
Each word is worth its Scrabble tile value — the same values the solver uses — and doubles at six letters. That is what makes the long words worth hunting for rather than filling the clock with three-letter words.
Your percentile compares your score against a model of how people play a three-minute round, built from how common and how long each answer is. It will be replaced with real numbers once enough people have played.
A worked example
Take the rack ACEFLPTUU. It holds 160 words and 1,175 points if you somehow found every one of them, which nobody does — a median player lands around 134.
The best word in it is TEACUPFUL at 32 points. Compare that with the short words that come to mind first: CAFE, CALF and CLEF are 9 points each, so all three together still lose to the one long word. Three minutes spent typing four-letter words is three minutes not spent finding CUPFUL, which doubles to 26 the moment it crosses six letters.
That is the whole tension of the round. Short words are certain and cheap; long ones are worth two of themselves and might not be there at all.
Streaks and your history
