Anagram Chain
Five scrambled words share a theme, growing from four letters to eight. Read their first letters downward and they spell a sixth answer — the meta.

How to play it
Type an answer into the first box and it lands on whichever scramble it belongs to, so there is no need to work top to bottom. Every rung you solve reveals one letter of the meta-answer, in order.
The meta can be guessed at any point, including before a single scramble falls. That is the shortcut the game is built around: spot the meta from the theme and two letters, and the rest of the board tends to follow.
A worked example
A chain on the theme Buildings and rooms, four letters up to eight:
- EBAM
- BEAM
- YBLOB
- LOBBY
- EAOCLV
- ALCOVE
- RATDOUN
- ROTUNDA
- RCAEENNT
- ENTRANCE
The bold letters, read downward, spell BLARE — which is not a building at all. The meta never has to belong to the theme; it only has to be spelled by the words that do.
Notice what happens after two rungs. With BEAM and ALCOVE in, the meta reads B·A··, and five-letter words fitting that pattern are few enough to guess from. Getting the meta early is worth more than grinding out the last scramble, because it tells you the letter every remaining answer starts with.
Where the words come from
Themes are hand-written in a content calendar, then checked against the same dictionary the solver uses — so every answer is a word this site would accept anywhere else. The meta-answer is not written down with the theme: it is found at build time by searching for a common five-letter word the theme can spell.
If you type a real anagram of a scramble that is not the themed word, you are told so rather than simply marked wrong. It is a fair thing to have found.
